I grew up in a single-parent household, so it wasn't at all strange that I was doing my own laundry or cooking meals when I was 11 years old. Of course, I hated it growing up when my other friends could go hang out but I had chores to do, but when I got to college and was really in charge of my own things, I saw how beneficial it was that I'd known how to do a lot of those things already for most of my life.
